Workbar has created a network of coworking spaces where independent professionals, start-ups, small businesses, and remote employees of larger enterprises can enjoy a vibrant community and high-quality office amenities at an affordable price. In order to complement the in-person interactions associated with their co-working locations, Workbar partnered with Gnar to build a Discussions applications to enable their Workbar Digital Member Community to seek advice from one another.

Visual Design

Gnar also led the visual design for the Discussion app to ensure broad engagement across this community, adding custom design off the Discourse default styling.

Conference Room Booking Application

This application also introduced a token economy for booking conference rooms at Workbar and Staples-Workbar locations. This Ruby on Rails and Angular application was embedded within the Workbar platform.

Discussions Application

The Gnar Company designed and developed a responsive web application which offers an integrated platform for Workbar members to communicate with one another in real-time. This effort included the development of user stories to understand the business logic and the value proposition to Workbar members, as well as wireframes of user flows within the application to understand core features and help uncover edge cases. To this end, the Gnar team utilized Discourse, an open source forum discussion platform with a Rails back-end, and an Ember front-end with a custom plug-in.
